DSU women's basketball falls to Montana Tech

BUTTE, Mont. - After a quarter of play between the Dickinson State women's basketball team and Montana Tech, the game was tied at 15. However, the Orediggers drastically outscored the Blue Hawks in the second quarter, 25-4, going on to defeat the Blue Hawks 76-59 on Kelvin Sampson Court on Thursday, Nov. 1.

The Blue Hawks outscored Montana Tech 20-15, but earlier mistakes were too great to make up for.

Dickinson State earned 36 rebounds compared to Montana Tech's 32, but the Blue Hawks (1-3) committed 28 turnovers compared to the Orediggers (2-0) 14.

Senior forward Rojin Karahan led Dickinson State in most categories, posting 11 points, eight rebounds and three assists. She also earned one of the team's five steals.

Senior guard Riley Helmick followed with nine points,while senior guard Lacey Waid and freshman guard Brook Janz added six points each.

Freshman forward Caleigh McClenahan led the Blue Hawks with two steals and earned the team's only block. She contributed five points, shooting 2-for-4 from the field and sinking one of her free throws.

Dickinson State shot 35.4 from the field, including just 13.3 percent from behind the three-point line.

The Ordiggers drained 28 of their 60 shot attempts, good for 46.7 percent. Led by sophomore guard Hailey Crawford who went 2-for-2, the home team shot 46.2 percent from behind the arc.

Freshman forward Celestina Faletoi and junior forward Kaylee Zard paced Montana Tech with 11 points each.
