CASPER, Wyo. - The members of the Dickinson State rodeo team were unable to advance into Saturday's short go of the College National Finals Rodeo.
Barrel racer Jami Derflinger ended up with the 15th-fastest average (44.34 seconds), but only the top 12 advanced to the short go, which was won by Texas A&M's Hailey Kinsel in 14.06 seconds.
And bareback rider Tate Schwagler posted scores of 62.5, 74 and 59 in his three attempts, but his average of 195.5 points landed him 17th overall and outside of the top 12. Lane McGehee of Sam Houston State University walked away as the champion with a final ride of 79.5 points and an average of 314 points.
Dickinson State's Jordan Hunt did not record a qualifying ride in any of his three attempts in the saddle bronc riding last week. The saddle bronc riding was eventually won by Preston Burr of New Mexico Junior College with a final ride of 74.
