SPEARFISH, S.D. -- Dickinson State junior Thomas Weikle earned medalist honors at the Black Hills State Invitational golf tournament on Monday.
Weikle left Spearfish Canyon Country Club with a two-day score of 75-72-147, which was 5-over par, and helped DSU take second in the team race with a 309-300-609.
Weikle opened the tournament Sunday by shooting 6-over par in his first four holes.
"From where he started off, he could have just pitched a tent and given up, but to his credit, he just stayed in there," DSU head coach Tim Daniel said. "That was a great effort on his part."
Minot State's men won with a 302-297-599.

Freshman Brian Quintus finished third for the Blue Hawks with a 78-78-149 and Kyle Chan was 10th at 80-75-155.
"(Quintus) made some huge putts all day," Daniel said. "His putter was just red hot. That was kind of the key for him."
The Blue Hawk women came in third with a 391-386-777.
Black Hills State edged Minot State by one stroke (714 to 715) for the team win. The Yellow Jackets had a nine-stroke advantage over the Beavers on Monday.
Beth McAuley of Miles (Mont.) Community College won the tournament with a 90-79-169. Minot State's Kara Dietz, a Hazen native, had the high score for Dakota Athletic Conference golfers with an 87-85-172.
Brittany Backen finished 11th with a 100-90-190 to lead the Blue Hawks.
The DAC teams wrap up the season with the Blue Hawk Invitational next Sunday and Monday at Heart River Golf Course.
