The federal government has awarded nearly $400,000 for conservation and outdoor recreation projects in North Dakota.
The U.S. Department of the Interior administers the Land and Water Conservation Fund, which is paid for through oil and gas leases on the county's coastal areas and in Alaska.
Since the fund's inception in 1964, almost $36 million has gone to more than 1,100 projects in North Dakota, according to Sen. John Hoeven's office.
Hoeven, a North Dakota Republican and a member of the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior and Environment, said in an announcement that the money will go to preserving natural wildlife habitats.
