Five Blue Hawk wrestlers qualify for nationals

BAKER, Kan. - Led by sophomore Gresh Jones, who placed first in the 133-pound weight class, the Dickinson state wrestling team finished third in the Heart of America conference tournament. Jones, along with four other Blue Hawks qualified for the NAIA national tournament on March 2 and 3 in Des Moines, Iowa.

Jones won his first match by fall in just one minute and 19 seconds. He won his quarterfinal matchup by an 11-0 major decision. While his final two bouts were much closer, Jones shutout both opponents in 4-0 decision wins, granting him first place.

In the 141-pound bracket Jaime Mullins earned third, as did Casey Jones in the 285-pound weight class.

Mullins defeated teammate Tanner Borneman (who did not qualify for nationals) by sudden victory in the 141-pound final, giving Borneman fourth place. Cody Johnson earned fourth in the 197-pound bracket.

Freshman Mathew Hruby placed fifth in the 125-pound weight class, rounding out the Blue Hawks that qualified for the NAIA tournament.

The Blue Hawks finished third overall with a team score of 116 points.
