Mayville State football coach steps down

MAYVILLE, N.D. — Mayville State head football coach Sean Thom has resigned to pursue other opportunities, the school said in a news release Monday, Jan. 28.

Thom became the Comets’ head coach in December 2016. His last day will be Feb. 1.

“I thank the players for the blood, sweat and tears that they put into this football program,” Thom said in a release. “This business is all about relationships, and I feel like the young men who have served on this team will forever be in my DNA.”

Mayville State finished the 2018 season 1-9 overall and 0-7 in the North Star Athletic Association. The Comets were 2-19 in Thom’s two seasons.

"We are grateful to coach Thom for the work he has done to get Comet football on the right track for our student-athletes," said Mayville State Athletic Director Ryan Hall. "We wish him all the best in his future endeavors."

According to Mayville State, the search for a new head football coach is underway.
