-- The league was organized in 1935 as the Frontier Athletic Conference with four existing teams as charter members (Montana Tech, Montana Western, Montana State-Northern and Rocky Mountain College). Carroll College joined in 1938. The University of Great Falls (Mont.) joined from 1974-84 and rejoined in 1999.
Lewis-Clark State College and Westminster College joined the league in 1998. Eastern Oregon University joined as an associate member in football in 2008.
Dickinson State and Southern Oregon University will join in 2012-13. DSU will be a full member. Southern Oregon will be an associate member in football.
-- The Frontier offers conference championships in football, men's and women's basketball, volleyball, men's and women's golf and women's soccer.
-- The league's motto is "The best in academics and athletics." It was named a NAIA five-star conference last year.

-- The additions of Dickinson State and Southern Oregon will increase the Frontier's footprint over five states. The conference will stretch more than 1,400 miles from Oregon's Siskiyou Mountains into the Rocky Mountains and to North Dakota's western Badlands.
