DSU's Riggin in ninth after day one of Billings invite
For their first and only competition before the conference meet, the Dickinson State golf teams traveled to the Lake Hills Golf Course in Billings, Mont., where after one day, the men and women both have the highest team scores.
The women's team, led by freshman Breilyn Riggin, finished the first day in fourth place with a team score of 360 on Monday, April 16.
The men's team finished two rounds in sixth place, combining for 662 strokes.
Riggin led the Blue Hawk women with a score of 84, seven strokes behind leader Sarah Schroefel of MSU-Billings. The Glendive native is in ninth place after one round.
Freshman Jace Steier sits in 17th place with an 89, closely followed by juniors Aimee Kittleson and Riley Helmick in 19th and 20th place, respectively. Freshman Natalee Hafer sits in a tie for 22nd and senior Jordan Sparby finished day one in a tie for 24th.
As for the men, sophomore Jaret Lee recorded a team-high 160 over the first two rounds, good for 21st place. Senior Parker Robinson was right behind Lee with 165 strokes. Freshman Carter Klein and senior Zach Miller finished day one with scores of 167 and 170, respectively.
Jamestown leads with a combined team score of 581, just five above par. A pair of Jimmies, Nathan Kapaun and Austin Rene sit in first place overall with 142 strokes, two below par.
