Hawks fare well in Kansas preliminaries

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Dickinson State men's track and field team had a solid day competing against some of the countries' top teams at the Kansas Relays.

LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Dickinson State men's track and field team had a solid day competing against some of the countries' top teams at the Kansas Relays.

The Blue Hawk men's 1,600-meter relay team enters the finals with the second-fastest time after clocking a 3:12.80 in the preliminary rounds on Friday.

Sean Pickstock had an stellar split of 46.8 seconds and Ramon Miller anchored with a 47.6 to lead the team which includes Allan Ayala and Sean Hurley. Pickstock also finished second in the 400 with a time of 48.25.

Miller, who is not running in the 400 open, clocked the third-best time in the 200 with a 21.29.

In the 400 relay, Micheal Sands, Jermaine Christie, Kurt McCormack and Jamal Forbes won their heat with a time of 41.31.

Ayala won his heat and is third overall in the 400 hurdles with a time of 53.04.

Few DSU athletes competed in finals Friday. McCormack finished sixth in the triple jump with a leap of 49 feet, 3 inches.

Christa Hofland and Clayton Unruh did not place in the shot put. Hofland had a toss of 44-5½, one of the better throws of her career, while Unruh had a solid 48-foot toss.
