LAWRENCE, Kansas -- Several Dickinson State athletes used Friday's preliminary races at the Kansas Relays to qualify for today's finals.
"We set ourselves up pretty well," DSU head coach Pete Stanton said.
Kedeshia Simpson and Kyla Wasser both qualified for the women's 100-meter finals by finishing fourth and sixth, respectively, in the preliminary rounds. Simpson clocked a 12.16-second time and Wasser came in at 12.49.
The duo also helped the team's 400 relay finish seventh in the prelims and qualify for the finals with a time of 48.88 seconds. Kelsey Aide and Franzi Schmid ran the other legs in the relay.
"Our women had an outstanding day," Stanton said.

Jamal Forbes ran a 10.77 to finish sixth in the men's 100 prelims.
Sean Pickstock qualified for the men's 400 finals with a sixth-place time of 48.13 in the prelims and anchored the 1,600 relay team that included Ian Smith, Allan Ayala and Lee Irvine into the finals with a fifth-place finish and a time of 3:17.71.
Ayala finished sixth in the men's 400 hurdles preliminaries with a time of 53.07 seconds.
Running unattached, former DSU star Ramon Miller finished second in the 200 prelims at 21.47 seconds.
In finals action, Kurt McCormack finished eighth in the men's triple jump at 49 feet, 1½ inches and Kim Schulz finished ninth in the women's javelin throw at 135-2.
Falling short of the finals races were Jermaine Christie, who was 14th in the 110 hurdles preliminaries with a time of 15.04 seconds, and the men's 400 relay team, which finished 17th with a time of 43.14.
"We just need to be more disciplined there," Stanton said of the relay.
On Thursday, Irvine finished 11th in the 800 finals with a time of 1:55.80.
