VALLEY CITY -- The Dickinson State softball team knew this weekend was crucial in the grand scheme of its season.

On Sunday, the Blue Hawks walked away from three consecutive days of Dakota Athletic Conference doubleheaders with a two victories over Valley City State and a six-game win streak.

DSU beat the Vikings 7-2 and 7-0.

"It's been a long weekend and the team played well," DSU head coach Kristen Fleury said.

Freshman pitcher Trina Guillen picked up the win in the first game, allowing no earned runs, while Vanessa Adame and Kelly Jahn each drove in a pair of runs.

Adame and Sara Jane Webster both went 3-for-3 at the plate. Webster finished a home run shy of the cycle, going 3-for-3 with a triple and a double.

In Game 2, Danielle Crawford hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning to give DSU a 6-0 lead and Carly Patterson went 4-for-4 and drove in three runs.

Jessica Huseby was 3-for-4 in Game 2 and finished 4-for-6 in the doubleheader.

In the circle, Webster threw five strikeouts to help preserve the shutout.

"We've looked down our lineup, one through nine, and everybody is doing what they're supposed to be doing," Fleury said. "We're starting to peak and play as a team and how we know how to play. They're playing with their hearts and not just their abilities too."

The Blue Hawks (20-9, 11-3 DAC) are home this weekend for a four-game series against Mayville State. The first doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday.

The Vikings fell to 17-16 overall and 2-10 in the DAC.
