BELFIELD - The Heart River boys basketball team cruised to the next round of the Region 7 basketball tournament as they beat Richardton-Taylor 62-45 in a play-in game Friday.
The Cougars jumped out to an early 23-6 lead in the first quarter and built their lead from there. Cole Olson had a game-high 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Tyson Kudrna followed behind with 16 points. Heart River went 9 for 12 at the free-throw line and outrebounded the Raiders 32-16.
Senior lane Voltz was the only player for Richardton-Taylor in double figures with 17 points with one 3-pointer, seven steals, and two assists. Spencer Floberg finished with eight points and team-high six rebounds.
Heart River takes on Hazen in the next round of the tournament at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
