FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Jess Herauf came up just short of All-America status last year at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships.
The University of Minnesota redshirt junior and Dickinson High graduate didn’t let history repeat itself on Saturday.
Herauf grabbed All-America honors with a fifth-place finish in the pentathlon for 4,372 points. The Dickinson native was seeded fifth after winning the Big Ten title in the pentathlon.
During the indoor track and field championships, Herauf placed runner-up in the shot up (45 feet, 1 inch) and 800-meter run (2 minutes, 13.9 seconds), eighth in the high jump (5-8½), ninth in the long jump (19-5½) and 13th in the 60-meter hurdles (8.78 seconds).
Kendall Williams of Georgia won the pentathlon with 4,678 points. Mississippi State’s Erica Bougard was runner-up with 4,566 points and Xenia Rohn of North Carolina rounded out the top three with 4,450.
