BISMARCK -- Jess Herauf made the first basket off the opening tip and never let up.
The Dickinson High sophomore scored 23 points and had seven rebounds to help her girls basketball team secure a 43-26 West region victory over Bismarck St. Mary's on Thursday night.
"She got off to a great start and got us rolling out to an early lead," Dickinson coach Greg Jung said. "... She's being a lot more assertive on the offensive end."
Herauf was the only player on either team to score in double figures.
The Midgets (7-10, 7-8 West) shot just 26 percent from the field while the Saints (1-16, 1-13 West) put the ball in the basket on just 30 percent of their shots.

Jung said with one region game left to play, Dickinson is likely locked into the sixth seed in the West Region tournament.
"We're feeling good where we're at," Jung said.
