HETTINGER - Down 26-15 at the half, the Dickinson Trinity girls basketball team outscored Hettinger-Scranton 17-10 in the third quarter to climb back within four points. The Night Hawks held on, though, winning the Region 7 game 49-42 on Tuesday, Jan. 15, from John Butterfield Court. The win was Hettinger-Scranton’s 10th straight.
“It was only a possession or two from getting away from us, but we made the first run of the third quarter and had it to a one-possession game in the fourth,” Dickinson Trinity head coach Carter Fong said via email. “We came up empty a couple times, they made their free throws down the stretch and throughout the game, and that was the difference.”
Hettinger-Scranton shot 14 of 22 from the charity stripe as the Titans committed 17 fouls.
Night Hawks (11-1,3-0 Region 7) junior Alyssa Andress netted a game-high 26 points, while sophomore Sam Oase, senior Briana Sanford and freshman Bailee Pierce followed with six points.
For the Titans (7-5, 2-1 Region 7), sophomore forward Abbey Kubas hit double-digits, scoring 10 of her 15 points in the second half. Sophomore guard Kara Wanner and junior guard Kylen Kubas added eight while senior guard/forwards Masy Kuntz and Alexa Walby contributed four points.

“We came up just a bit short in a heck of a battle on Tuesday,” Fong said. “The Night Hawks are a well-coached, talented bunch, and they have put a ton of points on the board this year. Our goal coming into the game was to try to keep it in the 40s to give ourselves a chance, and mission accomplished there.”
