Alyssa Andress, a starting junior guard on the Hettinger-Scranton girls basketball team, helped the No. 1 Night Hawks capture the Region 7 title, scoring a game-high 12 points in a 42-36 victory over Dickinson Trinity during the Region 7 Tournament championship game on Thursday, Feb. 21, from the Knights of Columbus Activities Center. After the game, Andress was selected to the All-Region team. In a 60-38 regional quarterfinal win over No. 8 Mott-Regent on Feb. 18, Andress scored six points before pouring in 12 points the next day during a 63-33 semifinal truimph against No. 4 New England.

DP: How does it feel heading to state?

AA: "Heading to state, it's unbelievable. I don't even know how to explain it, it's the best day ever."

DP: What do you think it took to make it to state?

AA: "I think our energy on the court and pulling together as a team is what it took to go to state."

DP: When did you start playing basketball and what is your favorite thing about it?

AA: "I started playing basketball around fourth grade. And my favorite thing about it is playing with my team, getting to know my teammates, and having fun with them."

DP: Who is your funniest teammate?

AA: "Our funniest teammate is probably Abbie Kludt. You never know what to expect, you never know what she's going to say."

DP: Who was your favorite athlete growing up?

AA: My favorite athlete was probably LeBron James."

DP: If you had one thing that you could eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?

AA: "I would eat mac and cheese."

DP: What is the best movie or tv show you've watched recently?

AA: "My favorite tv show is probably Grey's Anatomy."

DP: Who is your celebrity crush?

AA: "My celebrity crush. ... Zac Efron."

DP: Either/or: Hip-hop or country music?

AA: "Hip-hop."

DP: Are you a good dancer or a bad dancer?

AA: "A bad dancer (laughs)."

DP: Coke or Pepsi?

AA: "Pepsi."

DP: Basketball or any other sport?

AA: "Volleyball? Or Basketball...Yeah."

DP: What is your first sports memory?

AA: "My first sports memory is probably in the fourth grade. I had the ball and I got in a tough situation, and Abbie (Kludt) grabbed it out of my hands and went for a lay-up."

DP: Who are your biggest inspirations to succeed?

AA: "My biggest inspirations are my teammates, the girls that I grew up watching play, and just wanting to play like they did."
