Senior Derek Ferebee and the Beulah basketball team won the Region 7 championship 74-71 over Dickinson Trinity, granting the team a spot in the Class B State Tournament. The 6-foot-2 guard led the Miners with 28 and 27 points in the semifinal and championship games, respectively, as well as scoring 17 in the quarterfinal. Ferebee also contributed a team-high three assists and three steals in the championship game as well as six rebounds, seven assists and two steals in the semifinal game against Heart River.
DP: How long have you been playing basketball and what is your favorite part about the sport?
DF: "I've been playing since I was at a young age, probably three or four. My favorite part is definitely playing with my buddies. Especially at this time of the year it's pretty intense and pretty exciting."
DP: What is your biggest accomplishment this season?
DF: "I'm proud of all the adversity we overcame. We lost a starter at the beginning of the year. That was tough. We had some guys step up. We lost a few games but we came back and we're here now and we're gonna go to State next week. It's exciting for sure."

DP: Are you involved with any other activities at school?
DF: "Football, baseball, FBLA honor society and I teach Sunday school at my church."
DP: What is your favorite movie?
DF: "I like Ted 2. It's probably not appropriate, but I enjoy it."
DP: What's the latest show you binged on Netflix?
DF: "I'm watching Black Mirror actually. It's kind of interesting. I'm still watching it."
DP: If you could have one food for the rest of your life what would it be?
DF: "You know, probably pizza. You can't go wrong with some pizza, I guess."

DP: If you had one superpower what would it be?
DF: "I think flying would be pretty cool."
DP: Do you have a celebrity crush?
DF: "Not necessarily, there are some attractive females, I guess. There's too many to choose from."
DP: What is your biggest inspiration to succeed?
DF: "Definitely my mom and dad. They're my inspirations and they're always there for me. I'm so happy they're there for me. And my sister too. We've been through a lot together. I'm happy to be with them."
