Jaren Berger, a junior on the Dickinson High wrestling team, was the top finishing Midgets wrestler at the 2018 State Wrestling Championships. Competing in the 120-pound weight bracket as the fourth seed, Berger defeated Bismarck High junior and top-seeded Laken Boese by a 5-3 decision in the tournament's third place match.
DP: How long have you been wrestling and what's your favorite part about it?
JB: "I've been wrestling since I was a seventh-grader and my favorite part about wrestling would probably be the competition, about how you wrestle one-on-one against somebody. It's up to you whether you win or lose and you rely on how you've been wrestling."
DP: Are you involved in any other activities at school?
JB: "I play football. I'm in 'Best Friends' mentoring program.

DP: What are you proudest of this season?
JB: "Probably about just bonding as a team, getting to work with my wrestling partners everyday, and just getting more experience."
DP: What's your favorite movie?
JB: "Probably 'The Blind Side.' I like how he goes from having nothing to working really hard and doing what he wants."
DP: If you had to eat one food for the rest of your life, what would it be?
JB: "Probably Ice Cream. Oreo."
DP: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
JB: "I think it would be pretty cool to fly."

DP: What do you do to get ready for a match?
JB: "Well first, I drill really hard with my drilling partner, Brendan Johnson. And then we always incorporate a fun element, like we'll joke around or do something like that. I do a lot of stretching and I just get my body physically and mentally loose."
DP: Biggest celebrity crush?
JB: "Probably Selena Gomez."
DP: Who has been your biggest inspiration to succeed and why?
JB: "My biggest inspiration to succeed is probably my Dad. He used to be a wrestler and he supports me all the way through each season. He just teaches me on how to be a good role model."
