Lewis Division race tightens as Badlands loses series to Sabre Dogs

The Badlands Big Sticks struggled to plate runs in their midweek three games series vs. the Souris Valley Sabre Dogs.

Souris Valley took two of three in the series with Badlands taking the middle game by a score of 3-2 in extra innings.

The Sabre Dogs won 4-1 on Tuesday night and then 8-4 in the series finale on Thursday.

Badlands (17-15) is a half game up on the Sabre Dogs (16-15) in the Lewis Division of the Expedition League entering the home stretch of the season.

On Tuesday, the Big Sticks fell behind 4-0 before Wyatt Setian drove in Carson Lundmark for Badlands only run of the contest.


The Big Sticks totaled only seven hits in the loss with Mason Schwellenbach and Lundmark leading the way with two hits each.

Despite the low hit total, Badlands out hit the Sabre Dogs as they only had six.

In the Big Sticks win on Wednesday, the bats for each team struggled again.

Badlands had seven hits again, but their pitching staff shined allowing only three hits over 10 innings.

Schwellenbach drove in Chewy Sanders in the third frame and then Nathan Sanders knocked him in for Badlands to take a 2-0 lead.

The Sabre Dogs plated a single run in both the fifth and eighth innings, before Setian stole home in the tenth giving Badlands a one run lead and eventually the victory.

Joel Colledge went five innings striking out six and giving up only two hits.

Logan Siblerud pitched the next three innings allowing only one hit and one run, before Dallas Bryan finished off the game.


In the final game on Thursday night, Badlands once again tallied seven hits, but four errors plagued them in the loss.

The Sabre Dogs scored five runs in the third frame taking a 6-0 lead forcing the Big Sticks to dig themselves out of a hole.

Badlands trotted four runs across the plate in the fourth inning, three of which were unearned.

The Big Sticks are back in town this weekend for a three game set vs. the Western Nebraska Pioneers.

The contests will be the first time the two clubs have met this year and a rematch of the Expedition League Championship series in both 2018 and 2019.
