MAYVILLE - The Dickinson State baseball team couldn’t find its winning ways in the second doubleheader during a weekend series with Mayville State.
The Comets put together back-to-back solid pitching performances en route to a 3-1 and 11-0 win over the Blue Hawks on Saturday.
In the second game, Scott Petry didn’t allow anything to DSU. The senior right-handed starter pitched seven no-hit innings with no walks and four strikeouts.
The Comets’ bats backed up Petry in the first inning. Mayville scored three runs in the first, two in the fourth and capped it with six in the sixth.
Mayville’s Brandon Weber ripped a pinch-hit three-run double to right center during the sixth inning. Bryan Jacklitch added three hits and two RBI, while Spencer Kidder had one hit and drove in two runs.
DSU’s Jordan Yussman was charged with the loss after going 5 2/3 innings, allowed nine runs (seven earned) and struck out five. Chad Mosbrucker closed out the final 1/3 inning.
During the opener, Mayville used three pitchers - Alex Lotthammer, Todd Leavitt and John Pistulka - to silence the Blue Hawks bats to two hits.
Eric Seiler drove in DSU’s lone run on a RBI double to left center in the sixth inning. Sam Bisson came in to score from first base. Eric Contreras supplied the other hit for the Blue Hawks.
For the Comets, Aaron Miller, Jacklitch and Kidder each supplied a RBI. DSU’s Tim Catalano was tagged with the loss after he went six innings, allowed three runs and struck out four.
The Blue Hawks return home to host the University of Mary at 4 p.m. Monday.
