MANDAN - The Dickinson High baseball team bounced back from a 4-2 loss to Mandan Saturday afternoon to win the second game of the West Region doubleheader 7-5.
In the Midgets’ win, the Braves had built a 5-0 lead through two innings following a pair of RBI from Garrett Murphy and three more from Mason Huntley.
Dickinson got on the board with two runs in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth. The Midgets took the lead for good following a four-run sixth inning.
Kendall Jones went 2 for 3 for Dickinson (20-6, 20-6 West Region), scoring a run and driving in three. His brother Lucas Jones went 1 for 3 and added two RBI and two stolen bases. Michael McChesney notched two hits - a double and a triple - and scored two runs.
Eli Jung was credited with the win for Dickinson after pitching the final five innings in relief of Shawn Steffan. Jung allowed just two hits and two walks and struck out two while keeping the Braves (11-15, 11-15) off the scoreboard.
In Saturday’s first game, Dickinson held a 2-1 lead after two innings, but Mandan’s three runs in the fourth inning made all the difference. Steffan went 1 for 3 in the game with a run scored, and Tanner Ouellette provided an RBI double.
Ty Leingang picked up the win for Mandan after limiting the Midgets to five hits with no walks and four strikeouts in the five-inning complete game.
The Midgets, atop the West Region standings with Bismarck Century (20-6-1, 20-6-1), welcome Bismarck High to Southside Ballpark and Astoria Field for a doubleheader starting at 4:30 p.m. Monday.
