MINOT - The Dickinson High boys hockey team could not hold on to a third-period lead, falling to fifth-seeded Jamestown 4-3 during the first day of the West Regional tournament from the MAYSA Arena.
Entering the tournament as the fourth seed, the Midgets faced a deficit after the first 17 minutes of action.
Assisted by senior defender Connor Fuchs, Jamestown senior forward Parker Stockert opened the game’s scoring with a power-play goal. With only four seconds remaining in the period, eighth grade Blue Jay forward Alex Senf doubled the lead.
The Midgets responded with three unanswered goals. Assisted by junior forward Ryan Bren, junior forward Brayden Groll got Dickinson on the board six minutes and 48 seconds into the second frame during a man-up situation. Before the end of the period, junior forward Cody Shepard netted the equalizer.
Dickinson took its only lead of the game just 2:55 into the third period on an unassisted score from sophomore forward Joseph Pavek. However, a tripping penalty on senior defender Chris Zubke later in the frame proved costly as Jamestown senior forward Devin Hoffman tied the score at three.
