Midgets fall to Mandan on the road

MANDAN -- Propelled by four touchdown passes from junior quarterback Dane Carlson, Mandan earned its first WDA win, 42-14 over Dickinson High on Friday, Sept. 21.

MANDAN - Propelled by four touchdown passes from junior quarterback Dane Carlson, Mandan earned its first WDA win, 42-14 over Dickinson High on Friday, Sept. 21.

Carlson completed 11 of his 18 pass attempts for 289 yards.

The Braves scored three touchdowns before the Midgets got on the board. Carlson threw passes of 36, 22 and 78 yards to find Cole Schmidt once and Elijah Klein twice.

In the second quarter, the Midgets broke through with a 14-yard rush from senior running back Martin Lopez. The extra point gave the Braves a 21-7 lead at the half.

Mandan added another to start the third and two more in the final frame.

The highlight of the evening for Dickinson, was senior Morgan Wardner’s 98-yard kickoff return for a touchdown in the third quarter. Wardner ended the night with 80 rushing yards and 126 passing yards, going 12-for-21. Meanwhile, Lopez finished with 76 yards on the ground.

Senior Brendan Johnson led Dickinson 76 yards over four receptions.
