BELCOURT - The Dickinson High girls basketball team began its season with a 71-36 loss at Turtle Mountain on Friday.

Midgets senior Sarah Dobitz scored 18 points, accounting for half of the team’s total.

Faith Dionne led the Braves with 19 points, and Danielle Peltier followed with 15. Mariah Mortensen was the second-highest scorer for Dickinson with five.

The Midgets shot just 14 of 70 (20 percent) for the game.

“We did some great things tonight that the scoreboard wouldn’t show. Defensively, they fought hard every possession and we forced 26 turnovers, and we only turned the ball over 12 times,” Midgets head coach James Hayden said. “Offensively, we just hard a time putting the ball in the hole.”
