BISMARCK -- Dickinson High stayed out of the bottom spot at the Class A state golf tournament Wednesday, but couldn't overtake Wahpeton in the final round at Riverwood Golf Course.
"We went out today to cut out some strokes from here and there," Dickinson High head coach Sara Berglund said.
The real drama on the course turned out to be between Fargo South teammates Coy Papachek and Bill Carlson. The two were tied after the first round and then again after another 18 holes for a total score of 145.
Papachek came out on top after a one-hole playoff to take medalist honors.
Bismarck Century's Kavin Dvorak was third with a score of 146.

South ran away with the title, scoring 585 to beat West Fargo by 25 strokes.
The Midgets finished in 12th.
"The placing isn't important because we improved by 10 strokes (from Tuesday)," Berglund said.
Dickinson's Chandler Pender and Jarl Abrahamson each shot a 158 over the tournament.
Other Midgets finishers included Tanner Halter shooting a 169, Austin Fournier's score of 172, Luke Hanel carding a 174 and Tyler Cooper finishing with 188.
Berglund said her golfers were mentally prepared for a good round of golf.
"They didn't let it bother them if they hit a bad shot," she said. "They got over it."
