WILLISTON -- After spending a week being saddled with West Region doubleheader splits, the Dickinson High baseball team finally earned a sweep.

The Midgets swept Williston 13-7, 8-6 with inspired play in the late innings on Tuesday.

"We talked about hustling," Midgets coach Pete Dobitz said. "That's our bread and butter. That's Dickinson baseball when you hustle."

Dickinson (11-7, 8-7 West Region) didn't let down trailing the Coyotes 7-2 after five innings. The Midgets exploded for 10-run sixth to put the game away.

The offense was clicking for the Midgets with a total of 20 hits in 12 innings including 12 in the opener.

"We had a good hitting session last night," Dobitz said. "We had a lot of discussion on how to make an approach at the plate. What (other) teams have been doing, how they've been approaching us when we're batting. We need to counter that and we really did."

Tanner Hopfauf led the way in the first game, batting a scorching 3-for-4 performance with three RBIs. Dylan Skabo added a pair of hits including a triple and a RBI.

The bats continued to fire away in the nightcap as Dickinson scored all eight runs in the first two innings. From there, the Midgets were able to hold off Williston.

Skabo hit well again, going 2-for-2 with another RBI triple. James Kary batted 2-for-3 with a RBI. The Midgets totaled eight hits in the second contest.

Luke Herauf pitched the seven-inning win in the opener, while Alex Bast snagged the win during the second game.

The Midgets finish regular season play with a doubleheader against Minot on Thursday at 3:30 p.m.

"I'm real happy with where our pitchers are right now going into the final two games of the year and into the WDA (Tournament)," Dobitz said.
