JAMESTOWN - With three and a half minutes left to play, junior defender Peyton Hanson put the Dickinson boys hockey team up 3-2 on the road against Jamestown. However, with 55 seconds on the clock, Blue Jays freshman Jace Thompson got by senior goaltender Riley Wittenberg to tie the game.
Seven minutes and 44 seconds into overtime, Thompson struck again, sealing the 4-3 win. On Jan. 5, the Midgets fell to the Blue Jays in the same fashion at home with Thompson doing the deed, just 29 seconds into extra time.
Thanks to two goals from freshman forward Evan Groll, the Midgets (10-5, 4-5 WDA) jumped out to a 2-0 lead ahead of the first intermission. Jamestown’s Joe Cummings answered in the second with a power-play goal.
The Blue Jays (5-7-0-2, 5-4-0-1 WDA) tied the game at the 8:53 mark in the third thanks to a short-handed goal from Tommy Falk, who ended the night with a goal and two assists.
Wittenberg made 27 stops, while Blue Jays netminder Riley Gerhardt stopped 44 shots.
