Midgets place 5th at Hillcrest

JAMESTOWN -- The Dickinson boys golf team finished fifth with some balanced play Friday at the Jamestown Invitational at Hillcrest Golf Course.

Shay Ridl shot an 8-over-par 80 to lead the Midgets to a 324 team score.

Bismarck Century's Drew Lingle won a one-hole playoff to beat Bismarck High's Nick Nuestad for medalist honors. Both players finished 18 holes with a 1-under-par 71.

Lingle helped the Patriots to a team win with 296.

Seniors Austin Fournier (81), Luke Hanel (81) and Tanner Halter (82) factored into Dickinson's team score. Alex Priebe shot an 83 and Carter Donnan an 86.

"They're hitting the ball well," Dickinson coach Sara Berglund said. "One shot might cost them a double. These next tournaments, we're going to work on actually scoring."

The Midgets have three tournaments next week, beginning with the Century Invitational at Apple Creek Country Club near Bismarck. They host the West Region Tournament on May 30 and the Class A state tournament June 5 and 6.

Team scores: Bismarck Century 296, Bismarck High 300, St. Mary's 317, Williston 317, Dickinson High 324, Minot High 325, Mandan 331, Jamestown 333, Belcourt 388.

Medalist: Drew Lingle, Century, 71; Nick Nuestad, Bismarck, 71. (Lingle won in a one-hole playoff)

Dickinson finishers: Shay Ridl 80, Austin Fournier 81, Luke Hanel 81, Tanner Halter 82, Alex Priebe 83, Carter Donnan 86.
