MINOT -- Though it was cold and windy, the Dickinson High boys track and field team still get plenty accomplished at the Duane Carlson Invitational on Tuesday.
The Midgets were able to get three athletes qualified for the state meet in three new events, which helped them finish in second place with 158.5 points, behind champion Bismarck Century (174.5). Minot (147.5) took third and Bismarck High (114.5), which brought a partial team, finished fourth.
"Our kids ran, threw and jumped very well in this meet," Dickinson co-coach Dave Michaelson said. "I'm happy with the progress we've made."
Dickinson senior Challis Williams ran a 11.43 to qualify for state in the 100-meter dash. Senior Clark Weiser ran a qualifying time of 52.15 in the 400 while Nathan Magstadt took care of business in the 110 hurdles where he ran a 16.01.
Winning events for the Midgets were Bryce Levorsen and his pole vault of 13 feet, 6 inches, and Shivam Patel, who leaped 41-8.5 to win the triple jump. Dickinson also had the 1,600 relay, finishing with a time of 3:31.86.

Michaelson said he was particularly pleased with the javelin, which had three Dickinson placers. Kevin Smith (148-3) took third, and Jordan Malchose (144-7) and Justin Dvorak (142-11) took fifth and sixth, respectively.
"We had a pretty good day out in the field," Michaelson said. "Kevin Smith threw a personal best. That's not too far off from qualifying."
