SIDNEY, Mont. -- The Dickinson High track and field team opened its outdoor season at an aptly named meet held in a town it rarely visits.
Still, Midgets co-head coach Jay Schobinger was impressed by what the team accomplished, considering the odds.
Dickinson posted state-qualifying times and distances in 10 events (six girls and four boys) at the Winter Invitational, held in Sidney and hosted by Williston High School.
"It really wasn't all that nice today, but it was just nice to get outside and have a track meet," Schobinger said. "Overall we were pretty pleased."
Dakota Wolf (1,600-meter run), Amity Lantz (100), Brie Lynch (200), Jess Herauf (javelin) and the 400 and 800 girls relay teams all qualified for state.

On the boys side, Bryce Levorsen won the pole vault and qualified for state along with Calen Beaudoin (200), Nathan Magstadt (300 hurdles) and the 400 relay team.
Schobinger added that complete results were unavailable after the meet.
"We ran hard and competed hard," Schobinger said. "I think there's going to be some good things this year."
