WILLISTON - Five duals down and five tallies in the win column for the Dickinson High wrestling team early in the season.

Dropping one match due to an open weight class, the Midgets were victorious in all but two matches against the Coyotes, earning a 66-12 win on Thursday, Dec  13, from the Williston High School Gym.

“It was a good dual overall by our team,” Midgets co-head coach Trevor Conrad said. “They went out ready to compete, we got a really good warm-up in. Each kid knew that they had one match to wrestle and we had a lot of kids step up. We had a lot of pins tonight, which is always really good. Rather than have these guys kind of coasting for the win, we had a lot of guys get their opponent on their back once or twice and definitely capitalize on those pins.”

Dickinson collected nine pins overall. Two of the most notable victories came from senior Caleb Usher, at 170 pounds, and sophomore Tanner Janner, at 182 pounds.

After falling to the same opponent earlier in the season, Usher pinned Williston’s Comstock Krenz in two minutes and 42 seconds. Jarrett, who is battling through some pain suffered earlier in the week in practice, earned a fall over Ethan Brown in 4:35.

Only two matches were decided with tight decisions, each going the way of the Coyotes.

At 138 pounds, Dalton McKenzie got by Midgets freshman Troy Berg 3-2 while Raif Horswill defeated Tate Nordby 3-1 in a 160-pound match.

“The two losses we had were pretty big matches,” Conrad said. “Both matches had top-ranked guys of the state from both teams and both matches were decided by the one or two points.”
