Enjoying a comfortable cushion midway through the second half, the Dickinson High boys basketball team hung on in the final moments against Turtle Mountain Community High School, defeating the Braves 63-61 on Friday, Jan. 19 from DHS gym.
Off of 56 percent shooting in the first half, the Midgets led 32-19 entering the halftime break and had a 14-point lead, the largest advantage of the game, with more than 11 minutes left in regulation before the hard-charging Braves rallied.
Dickinson (4-8, West Region 3-7) had their struggles from the charity stripe. They shot 8-for-23 from the line, while the Turtle Mountain closed the deficit before 9-for-18 marksmanship from the 3-point line.
Despite their struggles from the free-throw line, the Midgets attacked the basket throughout the night, knocking down an impressive 51 percent of their shots from the field.
DHS had four players in double-figures, led by senior forward Krew Mathern with 18 points on 8 of 12 shooting while adding seven rebounds.

Senior guards Dawson Bechtold and Conner Hoenke each contributed 12 points. Bechtold drilling three 3-pointers and Hoenke nabbing five steals.
Senior guard Taven Azure led the Braves with a game-high 19 points, including four buckets from downtown. Junior forward-center Julian Parisien filled up the stat sheet with 18 points, eight rebounds and four steals.
With the victory, the Midgets snapped their four-game losing streak.
