JAMESTOWN - With a pair of two-run wins over Jamestown at Jack Brown Stadium on Friday, April 26, the Dickinson High baseball team remains undefeated against WDA opponents, holding the top spot in the West Region. The Midgets used consistent scoring in game one to win 7-5, and emerged victorious 11-9 in game two after falling behind early on.
Going into the fourth inning of game one, the Blue Jays led 2-1. After starting pitcher Morgan Wardner flied out, Nathaniel Jilek reached on an error. With catcher Logan Bentz at the plate, Jilek stole second before scoring on a double from Bentz. Freshman Troy Berg followed with a single to score Carson Weiler, who previously stole third as courtesy runner for Bentz.
After Jamestown used a walk, single and a poorly-played fielder’s choice to load the bases, Wardner walked in a run, tying the game at three.
The game was again tied at four going into the sixth inning. A leadoff walk by Berg, a Krenz single and an RBI single by senior Cody Maier put the Midgets ahead 5-4. Justin Berger, who went 3-for-4 in the contest, followed with another base knock to plate Maier from second.
Sealing the 7-5 win, Wardner stole home in the top of the seventh.

Scoring in every inning, the Midgets held on to win after allowing three runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Leading 11-6, Dickinson (7-5, 6-0 WDA) needed just three outs for the series sweep over Jamestown (4-4, 4-4 WDA). With Berg relieving for Gjerde on the mound, he allowed two singles and a walk in his first three batters. On the next two plays, the infield turned fielder’s choice outs, but runs still scored, cutting the deficit to 11-8. A single from Blue Jays batter Chris Erickson scored one more, before Jilek caught the final out in center field.
Gjerde allowed six runs on four hits, striking out three while walking five.
Berger was strong again at the plate, using a double to go 2-for-5 with a run scored and 3 RBIs. Additionally, Maier went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles, scoring once and driving in two runs.
