JAMESTOWN - For the first time since breaking away from a co-op with Williston, the Dickinson High girls swim and dive team stood alone at the top at an invitational.

With 534 team points, the Midgets were victorious at the Jamestown Invite on Saturday, Oct. 13.

Bismarck Legacy finished second with 463 points while host Jamestown followed with 446 points.

“It was a fun invite with the smaller teams on the west side of the state competing against each other. It was nice to see each each team come away with some wins in events where at most of the invites, we are always just behind those larger dominating teams in the state right now,” Midgets head coach Jenna Wolf said. “It really boosts their confidence to come away with some individual wins and high placings like they did, along with boosting the team confidence as well. We knew we had a chance and they went for it.”

Dickinson eighth-grader Charley Rathgeber won a pair of events, taking the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.40 seconds, and 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.93 seconds. Senior Brianna Ashworth was the other Midgets swimmer to capture an event, winning the 100 breaststroke with a time 1:13.92.

Junior Korie Riely took second in the 200 freestyle, 500 freestyle and 400 freestyle relay. She also was third in the 200 freestyle relay.

Eighth-grader Ericka Williams earned a runner-up spot as well, taking second in the 200 individual medley as well as fourth in 100 breaststroke.

As for the divers, sophomore Jaydin Decker earned a personal record with 347.6 points, breaking her previous mark by 46 points. She was joined by eighth-grader Teghan Hoff, who earned fifth place with a state-qualifying mark of 313.20 points.
