Midgets tennis shows well at West Fargo Invite

WEST FARGO - The Dickinson High tennis team went 2-0 in team matches at the West Fargo Invite on Friday, and on Saturday, the Midgets came away with four players earning places in a bracket-style tournament, placing Dickinson in a tie for 11th place with two team points.
Bismarck Century took the top spot with 26 team points, and West Fargo Sheyenne (25) and Fargo Davies (16) followed to round out the top three teams.
On Friday, the Midgets earned 5-0 wins over Fargo South and Wahpeton.
Against Fargo South, Dickinson picked up singles wins from Ireland Jung, Sarah Nelson and Katie Riely. Lauren Jorda and Dynae Zubke won their doubles match 6-1, 6-2 against Arianna Harmon and Carly Johnson. Dickinson’s Cora Knipp and Jaida Harden won the first set of their doubles match against Elayna Hall and Kelsie Elliott 6-4 but dropped the second set 4-6. Knipp and Harden rebounded to win the third set tiebreaker 10-5.
Against Wahpeton, Jung, Nelson and Riely all recorded singles wins again. Dickinson’s same doubles pairings both won again as well, putting the touches on another team win.
On Saturday, Zubke and Jordan lost in the championship side of the doubles bracket but battled back on the consolation side to take fifth at the tournament. They defeated Jamestown’s pairing of Medora Pringle and Megan Larson 8-6 in a pro set.
Riely also rebounded after an early loss in the No. 3 singles bracket to defeat Kacy Jiran of Grand Forks Central in three sets. Alexa Cofer lost 8-4 in a pro set to Fargo Shanley’s Pooja Potluri in the consolation championship to place sixth in the No. 5 singles bracket.
