Minot downs Dickinson in quarterfinals

BISMARCK -- No. 2 seed Minot High built off its 21-point halftime lead to defeat the Dickinson High girls basketball team in the quarterfinals of the West Region Tournament.

BISMARCK - No. 2 seed Minot High built off its 21-point halftime lead to defeat the Dickinson High girls basketball team in the quarterfinals of the West Region Tournament.
The Majettes rolled to win 58-22 on Thursday at the Bismarck Event Center Exhibit Hall.
Senior Meryl Kovacs led the Midgets with 11 points and three rebounds. Jayde Lawlar added five points and three rebounds.
Dickinson struggled to find the basket all night, shooting 23 percent in the first half and 19 percent in the second half.
Minot didn’t shoot particularly well either, but made its shots count when needed. The Majettes struggled at the free-throw line, going just 3 of 14, and were 24 for 53 from the field. They outrebounded Dickinson 43-26, including 18 offensive boards which contributed to nine second-chance points.
Sierra Duttenhefer scored a game-high 15 points and added three rebounds, three assists and two steals. McKale Duttenhefer and Cassie Askvig scored 13 and 11 points, respectively. Duttenhefer had three rebounds and three steals while Askvig pulled down five rebounds and supplied four assists.
Dickinson finds itself in the loser-out round at 6:15 p.m. today against Williston, who they split with in the regular season.
