MINOT -- The Dickinson gymnastics team hit a minor bump in the road on Friday.

The Midgets turned in good performances in three of their four events, but struggled to stay on the balance beam, eventually finishing second to Minot at the Kim Lupo Memorial.

Minot finished with a score of 146.90 while the Midgets tallied a 144.65. Bismarck Century (142.85) took third.

"We were looking at pretty good totals and then, beam didn't go so well," Dickinson coach Kent Van Ells said. "Brogan (Burwick) nailed beam and won the event. After that, we had a lot of trouble."

The Midgets had just one more participant stay on the beam after Burwick's top score of 9.35.

Burwick's 9.4 was good enough for third on the uneven parallel bars and she was also Dickinson's best all-around finisher, taking sixth with a 35.875.

Kelsey Dukart took second on the floor exercise, scoring a 9.6. She also placed fourth on the vault with a 9.15.

"We did well until we got to the beam," Van Ells said. "That finish was a downer. We were really sailing up until then."
