No. 4 Bismarck takes down DHS

BISMARCK -- Dexter Werner had 19 points and nine rebounds for the Bismarck High boys basketball team en route to a 78-66 West Region victory over Dickinson High on Thursday night.

Bismarck had four players score in double digits as they pulled away from the Midgets in the second half.

DeWayne Liggins had 17 points, 15 rebounds and three steals for the No. 4-ranked Demons (11-4, 10-2 West). Jaxon Fitterer also scored 17 points.

Junior Jesse Kessel led Dickinson with 14 points and senior Nate Moody added 12 points and six rebounds.

"We played extremely hard," Midgets head coach John Wilson said. "We just didn't have an answer for them tonight."

The Midgets (7-7, 5-7 West) were able to keep things close in the first half as they trailed five at halftime, 36-31.

"They shot awesome from the perimeter," Wilson said. "When both teams shot over 50 percent from out there it just comes down to who has the better of the two."

Dickinson hosts Jamestown at 5:45 p.m. Saturday.
