RAPID CITY, S.D. -- Dickinson State junior T.J. Poulsen started the Dakota Athletic Conference spring golf season with a victory, but the Blue Hawks couldn't pull within reach of a conference title Monday at the South Dakota Mines Invitational.

Minot State inched closer to a DAC championship on the men's side with a two-day score of 313-313-626 at Meadowcreek Golf Course.

DSU was six strokes shy of the win, coming up with 316's both Sunday and Monday to finish with a two-day score of 632.

On the women's side, Black Hills State all but locked up a conference title with one meet remaining this season, scoring a 370-366-736 to beat second-place Minot State (381-369-750) and third-place DSU (377-384-761).

"Both the men and women struggled chipping and putting," said DSU coach Tim Daniel, whose team had slim opportunities to get on the course before the tournament.

Poulsen didn't seem fazed though. The Cody, Wyo., native had the best round of the tournament with a 72 on Sunday and finished it off with a 76 on Monday.

"He played well both days, especially (Sunday), the first time out," Daniel said.

DSU sophomore Kelsey Boedeker finished third in the women's tournament with an 87-90-177. Minot State's Whitney Stanley won medalist honors with an 88-79-167.
