Dickinson senior sets new school record in Pole Vault

Dickinson High School hosts invitational track and field meet where DHS' Emily Ash set a new school record, while the Midgets set 35 personnel records and seven new state qualifiers.

DICKINSON — Teams from across the state traveled to Dickinson over the weekend to participate in the Dickinson High School (DHS) track and field invitational. It was held at the Biesiot Activities Center on Saturday, with Minot High School girls and Bismarck Legacy boys toppling the other programs. DHS would take fifth place, for both the boys and girls overall scores, but the day was not without excitement, as senior Emily Ash set a new school record in pole vaulting.

The Midgets set over 35 personnel records and seven new state qualifiers. Coming into the meet, the Midgets already had 11 state qualifying finishes in events.

Emily Ash, who has already qualified in pole vaulting, 4x100m and 4x200m relays, tied for first in pole vaulting, simultaneously setting the girls program record at 11-01.

Junior Jasmin Barry also found herself on top of the winners podium in long jump, with a distance of 18-07. Barry recently broke a school record in long jump at the Bowman County meet, that goes all the way to 1976, jumping 18' 11”. Kendra King will be joining Barry at state in long jump, taking third(16-10). King also took third in triple jump, with a state qualifier (35-03.50).

Dickinson boys also picked up some state qualifiers in Benett Carlson and Blake Homiston. Carlson tied for first in pole vaulting with a height of 13-06, Homiston taking third in pole vault and in 300m dash with a personal best of 13-0 and 42.21 respectively.
