Matt Boldy records a goal and an assist to lead Wild past Oilers

ST. PAUL -- Matt Boldy is heating up.

After scoring a goal over the weekend, Boldy recorded a goal and an assist on Monday night at Xcel Energy Center to lead the Minnesota Wild to 2-1 win over the Oilers. He now has 11 goals and 10 assists this season and appears to be rounding into form.

After a back-and-forth start to the game, Boldy put the Wild in front 1-0, redirecting a pass from Kirill Kaprizov on the power play.

That lead proved to be short lived as Oilers winger Zach Hyman leveled the score at 1-1 roughly 90 seconds later. He did so by posting up in front of Marc-Andre Fleury while on the power play and hammering home a loose puck in front.

Though the play looked clean at first glance, Wild coach Dean Evason decided to challenge for goaltender interference. The officials stuck with the call on the ice, and because the Wild lost the coach’s challenge, the Oilers went back on the power play.

Luckily for the Wild, they stepped up big time on the penalty kill to limit the damage.

That score held into the second period, when the Wild appeared to take the lead thanks to a goal from Matt Dumba. This time around, the Oilers decided to use their coach’s challenge, and the officials ruled Freddy Gaudreau offside to wipe the goal off the board.

Not long after that, Gaudreau made up for his miscue, finishing off a feed from Boldy to put the Wild up 2-1.

That paved the way for the third period, where the Wild tightened up in front of Fleury to preserve the win.

The biggest play of the night will go unnoticed in the box score. With the Wild on their heels, and Oilers superstar center Connor McDavid flying up the ice in the waning minutes, Jared Spurgeon got his stick in the shooting lane to stymie a potential scoring chance.

Then, with the Oilers pressuring in the final seconds, Fleury steered away a puck amid a mad scramble in front, and the Wild walked away with the win.
