MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins completed a busy day by completing a trade for Cincinnati infielder Kyle Farmer on Friday night, not long after they had traded third baseman Gio Urshela to the Los Angeles Angels.

Farmer, 32, played 145 games for the Reds last season, mostly at shortstop, and hit .255 with 14 home runs. His 78 RBIs were more than any Twins player amassed last season. He appears to take the infield spot of Urshela, who was dealt to the Angels for Alejandro Hidalgo, a 19-year-old right-hander who spent the 2022 season with Class A Inland Empire in the California League.

On Monday, the Twins agreed to a three-year deal with Christian Vazquez to pair with Jeffers.

Hidalgo was 0-3 with a 4.62 earned-run average but had a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 13.4 — 58 strikeouts in 39 innings against 19 walks.

Farmer has one more waiver option and two seasons of arbitration eligibility before he’s scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after the 2024 seasons. He has a career batting average of .254 and a .311 on-base percentage in 480 major league games since he was first called up by the Dodgers in 2017. To acquire Farmer, the Twins sent minor league outfielder Casey Legumina to Cincinnati.

Legumina, 25, was 2-6 with a 4.80 earned-run average between high-A Cedar Rapids and Double-A Wichita last season. He struck out 92 and walked 36 in 88⅓ combined innings.

Urshela was acquired alongside catcher Gary Sanchez in a deal that sent third baseman Josh Donaldson and shortstop Isiah Kiner-Falefa to the Yankees shortly before last season started. Urshela hit .285, third best among Twins, with 13 home runs and 64 RBIs, tied with Carlos Correa for second on the team. His 144 games played tied Luis Arraez for the team lead.

The Twins started Friday by unveiling new uniforms in a fashion show at the Mall of America, then also tendered contracts to all the unsigned players on the 40-man roster. That list includes arbitration-eligible pitchers Caleb Thielbar, Jorge Alcala, Tyler Mahle, Jorge Lopez, Chris Paddack and Emilio Pagan, as well as infielder — and American League batting champion — Luis Arraez.

The Twins now have 39 players on their major league roster: 24 pitchers, one catcher, five infielders and nine outfielders.
