The Dickinson Roughriders swept the Minot Vistas on Tuesday evening improving their conference record to 3-3 and their overall record to 16-7.

They won the first game in walk-off, 8-7, and used help from a Minot defensive error to take game two, 6-3.

Logan Bentz laid down a bunt in the bottom of the seventh inning. An error allowed him to reach base and Nathaniel Jilek to move over to third base. Jilek bit on a ground ball by Carson Weiler and a throw to first instead of to home plate scored the winning run giving the Roughriders the walk-off in game one.

“That win was huge,” Roughriders head coach Tyler Frenzel said. “We had the mindset to come in and get two. We have been working on trying to sweep teams for a long time now, so it was nice to be able to do it.”

The victory wasn’t easy, however as Dickinson gave up six runs in the second inning and fell behind 6-0.

Nick Deschamp hit three batters in the frame and the first run of the game was scored by Calvin Watkins on a bad throw down to third base while he was attempting to steal.

Jack Plemel, Kersey Harris and Logan Merck all drove in runs in the big inning.

“Nick is a bulldog and even if he gets down early he will battle and keep us it in,” said Frenzel. “He is a good pitcher for us and I am not going to take him out in a situation like that.”

Deschamp battled back though giving up only one more run in the sixth inning.

Later, Jilek hit in Landon Aman and Logan Bentz scored Isaac Daley to trim the Vistas lead to 6-2 after two full innings.

The Roughriders didn’t stop there though as in the third inning Jaren Hugelen, Daley and Aiden Haich drove in runs making the game a one run contest.

Dickinson hit the ball all over the yard as they recorded 13 hits in the dramatic win.

Hugelen drove in another run in the fourth before Riley Odonnell pinch hit for Daley and recorded a RBI to give Dickinson a 7-6 lead.

Aman and Jilek both went 3-4 in the win while Hugelen scored two runs at the plate.

Daley went a perfect 2-2 with a run and RBI and Troy Berg who pitched the seventh inning got the win on the mound.

Deschamp struck out six and only three of the seven runs he gave up were earned.

The back end of the twin bill required more late drama but this time in the bottom of the sixth.

With the bases loaded, the Vistas led 3-2 needing only six more outs to split the series.

A routine fly ball was hit by Weiler and Talon Hebert dropped it, scoring Haich to tie the game.

Krenz and Hugelen drove in runs to solidify the victory.

The Roughriders' other two runs were in the first inning when Hugelen lined a ball down the right field line scoring Weiler and Berg.

They went on to leave the bases loaded.

Trent Greek hammered a home run over the left field wall to tie the game in the top of the second to tie the game after scoring in the opening half inning of the game.

Kobe Krenz earned the win on the mound going six and one-third innings and striking out nine.

“Kobe pitched well for us,” Frenzel said. “He did what we expected him to do and gave us a great effort.”

Huglen drove in four runs in the second game and he was the only Roughrider with multiple hits, while Berg and Weiler each scored two runs.
