The Dickinson Roughriders bat’s didn’t produce much until they needed it the most in the first game of their doubleheader at Mandan on Wednesday night.

Isaac Daley recorded a sacrifice fly to score Troy Berg and tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the seventh inning.

In extra innings, Kobe Krenz singled up the middle to score Riley Odonnell and give the Roughriders a 2-1 lead which was the final score and a split of the series after Mandan won game two by a score of 7-5.

“Jake Arenz and Carson Weiler got locked in a pitchers duel,” Tyler Frenzel, Roughriders head coach, said. “Kobe came in and closed it out for us and got the big hit too. That is what seniors do.”

Dickinson gave up one run in the third inning, but otherwise Weiler pitched a gem.

He went over six innings giving up only seven hits and the run was unearned.

Kobe Krenz came in to relieve Weiler and pitched one and one-third of an inning earning the win.

At the plate, Krenz went 3-5 with an RBI.

Berg went 2-5, while Jaren Hugelen drew two walks.

In game two, Dickinson had a 5-3 lead before four runs in the sixth inning cost them the game.

Odonnell drove in Daley to tie the game at one in the second inning then Berg scored Landon Aman.

Krenz hit in Odonnell making the score 3-1, and then extending the lead to 5-1 after Weiler and Hugelen RBI in the top of the fourth.

Krenz came back in after finishing off game one and pitched 85 pitches in three and two-third innings of work.

Hugelen and Daley finished off the game, but two runs in the fourth and the big sixth inning gave Mandan the win.

Aman, Berg, Weiler and Krenz all recorded two hits each in the loss

“We were up 5-3 and give Mandan some credit. They hit the ball in the sixth inning and scored some runs,” Frenzel said. “Our pitchers did a nice job tonight. We made them beat us and give them credit for that.”

The losses dropped Dickinson to 8-5 overall and 1-3 in conference.

The Roughriders will play in a tournament at Williston this weekend with two games on both Friday and Saturday.

“(This weekend) will give us a chance to throw some other guys this weekend and see what they can do. Our pitching has been pretty good this year and I have been pleased with it.
