OMAHA, Neb. - After splitting their first two games of a tournament in Omaha on Friday, the Dickinson Roughriders American Legion baseball team split another two games over the weekend to go 2-2 for the tournament. Dickinson lost to Creighton Prep (Neb.) 10-0 on Saturday before ending the tourney with a 5-2 victory over Smoky Hill (Colo.) on Sunday.
In that win, the Roughriders (4-9) scored two runs in the second inning with RBI singles from Brock Messer and Mike Herauf. Eli Jung cracked a one-run double in the fourth frame, Messer drove in another run on a double in the sixth and Shawn Steffan scored on a wild pitch in the seventh.
Steffan, Michael McChesney and Messer each ended the game with two hits.
Austin Boswell earned the win in five innings pitched by allowing just one run on three hits with two strikeouts and a walk.
In the loss to Creighton Prep, Boswell was the only Roughrider to record a hit, while Cam Jorda had three walks.
Zac Zagozda gave Creighton Prep the win from the mound while giving up no runs and no hits with eight strikeouts and six walks in 4 2/3 innings of work. Treven Hopfauf was tagged with the loss after going six innings and allowing nine runs (seven earned) on eight hits with a strikeout and five walks.
Dickinson is scheduled to play in a doubleheader at 5:30 p.m. today at Southside Ballpark and Astoria Field against Jamestown.
