BISMARCK -- Dickinson High doubles team Kyle Rummel and Luke Van Ells clinched a bid to the Class A state tournament Friday by winning its first two matches of the West Region doubles tournament at Tom O'Leary Courts.
Rummel and Van Ells, both seniors, beat Williston's Jeff Klevin and Brook McFarlin 6-2, 6-4 to advance to today's semifinal match against No. 1 seeded Heath Glenn and Jordan Nelson of Williston.
The Dickinson doubles team of Beau Miller and Nathan Magstadt won its opener before falling to Glenn and Nelson. They play in a state-qualifying match today.
In singles action, Dickinson's Aaron Berg took a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Jamestown's Ryan Sanders in the second round before falling to Bismarck Century's Loren Anderson 6-0, 6-1. Berg is one win away from his first trip to the state individual tournament. He faces Williston's Juan Monsalve Wagner today after defeating him Thursday in team competition.
"Aaron has his work cut out for him tomorrow," Dickinson co-coach Carter Fong said.

Dan Anderson and Alex Schroeder were eliminated in singles play.
Schroeder, a senior, won two matches in three sets before being knocked off in his third match.
"He played some of the best tennis of his career today," Fong said of Schroeder.
