MANDAN -- Though the Dickinson High girls track and field team didn't have any state qualifiers, the team received quality performances all-around.
Two standout performances came at two ends of the spectrum -- in the sense of upper and underclassmen -- during the Mandan Invitational on Saturday.
Dickinson senior Rachel Schroeder came within three feet of qualifying in the javelin. Her throw of 107 feet, 3 inches was good enough for third place in the event.
"I really like the leadership Meleah Leiss, Shelby Stoltz, Rachel Schroeder, Abby Grove and Ali Moody," Dickinson co-head coach Dave Michaelson said. "We don't have a big senior class, but they do lead well."
Eighth-grader Elizabeth Yoder finished third in the 1,600-meter run and ran a time of 5 minutes, 35.24 seconds. Her time was exactly five seconds away from qualifying for the state meet.

"She PRed by almost 30 seconds," Michaelson said. "She'd run at the junior high level for half of the year. She came that close and that was very exciting."
The Midgets continue the season by splitting up their squad for a meet on Monday in Bismarck and the Midgets will have some boys and girls in the Trinity Last Chance meet on Tuesday at the Biesiot Activities Center.
