After a first half that seldom featured offense, Minot and the Dickinson High basketball teams combined to score 93 points in the second half. After struggling on 7-for-34 shooting from the floor in the first 18 minutes, the Magicians fired in shots at a 60-percent clip during the final 18 minutes en route to a 71-63 victory over the Midgets on Friday, Feb. 15, from the Dickinson High Gym.

The home team wasn’t too shabby from the field after halftime, making 14 of 28 attempts, but with 25 overall turnovers, it couldn’t slow down a Minot squad that extended its lead to as much 15 points with just over four minutes remaining in regulation.

Magicians junior guard Jason Gunville scored a game-high 27 points, including five baskets from three-point range. Junior center Easton Larsen had 15 points and 10 rebounds while sophomore guard Deonte Martinez added 14 points.

Pacing the Midgets was junior guard Kobe Krenz, who had 24 points and four 3-pointers. Junior guard Jaiden Wright had 17. Each guard contributed eight rebounds.

In his final regular-season home game, senior forward Cody Maier was 1-for-2 from the field before fouling out. Before the contest, Maier, the team’s lone senior was recognized in front of the crowd as part of the senior night festivities.
