BELLEVUE, Neb. - Trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the seventh against Mayville State with two outs, the Dickinson State softball team needed a hero.
Up stepped senior Rachael Dillon.
The extra-hitter was down to her last strike when she hit a walkoff, three-run home run, giving the Blue Hawks the 5-4 victory on Friday, March 30 at Bellevue, Neb.
Dickinson State won their first contest of the day as well, establishing an early 3-0 lead, going on to win 4-2.
Dillon hit the game’s only home run against Comets senior pitcher Haley Kravetz, who went the distance in the second contest.

Junior Abi Brooks pitched the first six innings for the Blue Hawks, allowing two runs and senior Jalen Creech threw the final inning, also allowing two to score.
Brooks and Creech split the afternoon contest as well, pitching four and three innings, respectively. Over two games, Brooks struck out seven batters while walking four and Creech struck out three, walking two.
Freshman Emilie Sickler started the scoring with an RBI double in the second inning. Dillon followed with a home run, driving in Sickler. Sickler went 1-2 in the first game.
The Blue Hawks (14-12, 6-4 NSAA) extended their lead in the fourth when Dillon drove in junior Kayla Stephens on a single.
The Comets (7-18, 3-9 NSAA) got on the board in the fifth with a solo homer from senior Breena Martinez.
