BISMARCK -- The Dickinson girls softball team could taste its first-ever victory Thursday when it took a one-run lead in the sixth inning of the second game of its doubleheader against Bismarck.
Then the Sparks rallied, scoring six runs in the bottom of the sixth and shutting down the Midgets in the seventh to claim a 19-15 victory and keep Dickinson winless in its inaugural season.
"We had a little bit of a lead and they had to come back and score a few on us and they did," Dickinson coach Bill Butterfield said.
Bismarck won the first game 13-2 on the strength of pitcher Sarah Lardy, who tossed a four-hitter, and a nine-run first inning.
"We started off behind the eight-ball," Butterfield said. "After that we played them well."

In the second game, the Midgets were led by Liz Branson, who went 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBI while LaFond scored three times.
"She's starting to see the ball good and giving it a ride," Butterfield said of Branson.
The Sparks, who are a co-op of all the schools in Bismarck, had 31 hits in the doubleheader.
The Midgets dropped to 0-9 on the season and visit Minot Ryan on Tuesday.
